Well! Some might say that I have finally lost my mind. Telling someone that you are going to just go out and walk 13.1 miles might seem a little far fetched. That's why I follow up with the reason, and that seems to go over a little better!
There are lots of diseases out there that affect the lives of people. This one is the #1 killer of children ages 1-15. Leukemia and its blood-related cancers strike some 107,900 Americans each year and kill 60,500. Pretty alarming statistics. There is good news though! The survival rate has risen from 4% in 1960 to 81% in the last decade. That gives me the motivation to strive for the finish line. There continues to be a need for further research to find a cure. 75% of the money raised from event will go to further that research.
